Marriage, divorce and happily ever after

Not all stories have a happy ending.  Not all marriages turn to a happily ever after.

Some wounds stay deep within and have an impact which carries throughout life. Tatite was born in Italy and has traveled to many places with many experiences but the one wrong decision she made in her youth has stayed with her to this day.

“The happiest moment of my life was when I got a divorce.

It was a shitty life with my husband. I was with him for 4 years before the marriage, working as a mecanograph and also on street markets to pay for the wedding.

I had signs early on but didn’t pay attention mainly because I was only 21 years old at the time. My mom told me not to get married to him. She didn’t love him and didn’t even come to the wedding.

Even though Tatite never had biological children of her own, she is a loving auntie to her friend’s son and daughter. A weekly dinner at their favorite Chinese dinner still brings heartfelt memories. It is a cherished tradition 20 years in the making.

Thank you Tati for sharing your story and Fazil for the introduction and translation.
